Committed to minimum environmental impact

By its very nature the communications industry can have a significant effect on the environment including its use of substrates, transport and energy. That's why we take responsibility for our methods of operation and actively seek ways to minimise any long-term effects.

We are extremely proud of our environmental record and are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. Our parent company imageData Group has been accredited with ISO 14001, the international standard on environmental management but this is just the beginning of our pursuit to cut our carbon emissions.

Some of our Initiatives

  • All of our sites' print processes are alcohol-free

  • We encourage clients to use FSC and PEFC materials

  • Our standard stocks are FSC accredited

  • We pro-actively encourage on-line digital proofing and digital transfer of artwork which saves courier miles

  • Our lithographic printing is completely solvent-free.  We use vegetable oil-based inks and water-based coatings

  • We use Agfa's Azura TS plates at imageData Willerby and are one of the highest volume users in the country to switch to chemistry-free platemaking

  • We use an ink.trac system to supply our litho machines with ink.  This is a more environmentally-friendly alternative to using traditional plastic print cartridges which have to be sent to landfill.

  • We recycle, where possible - segregating plastics, cardboard and paper

  • We recycle 99.5% of our paper and board and 100% of our printing plates

  • We recycle printer toners to help charity

  • We re-circulate heat from the machines for heating the offices and production areas

  • We donate 'retired' computers to schools

  • We use energy saving and motion-sensitive lighting

  • We aim to use suppliers within a 50-mile radius, where possible

  • We have installed bike shelters and shower facilities to encourage two-wheeled commuting

  • We pro-actively encourage digital printing which uses less energy and is less wasteful of materials and inks than conventional printing methods

  • We have built a wildlife lagoon, with reed beds at out Howden plant

  • Again at our Howden plant water is harvested from the roof for the cleaning of vehicles

  • We are members of the HRH Price of Wales May Day Network
